About MLO License Prep

MLO License Prep is an independent resource for people deciding whether to become a mortgage loan originator (MLO) and figuring out how to get licensed. It is published by Urban Algorithm LLC. We sell no course, which is the whole point: we can answer the money questions honestly because we do not profit from your answer.

Why "we sell no course"

Almost every site that ranks for mortgage-licensing questions sells the very education you are deciding whether to buy, so its answer to "is this worth it" is always "yes, enroll." We are not an education provider, cannot license anyone, and have nothing to upsell. That lets us state the downsides first, commission volatility, ramp time, and the fact that your license stays inactive until an employer sponsors it, because honesty is the only thing a course seller cannot copy.

What we build

Free, ungated tools that turn a general question into a personalized number a chat answer cannot produce: an honest is-it-worth-it compensation and break-even calculator, a per-state licensing-steps wizard, and an all-in cost breakdown. Alongside them sit neutral guides on the career decision, sponsorship, the SAFE test, and continuing education. Your inputs stay on your device; we receive only anonymous, banded aggregate statistics, described in our Privacy Policy.

How we handle facts

The federal education-hour requirements and the passing score are set by the SAFE Act and verified against the United States Code (12 U.S.C. 5104 and 5105), with the date they were verified recorded in our fact registry. The fees, whether set by NMLS (the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System) or by a state, change, so rather than re-host a number we cannot maintain we link the official NMLS source and the published state fee matrix, so you always see the current figure. Our original contribution is the honest decision math, the ordered per-state steps, and the sponsorship and timeline editorial, not a fee table we pretend to own.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or administered by the NMLS, the Conference of State Bank Supervisors, or any government agency. We name laws, systems, and tests only for accuracy. Where we point to an approved education provider, that link is disclosed.
